Our leadership Team

Karen Banks

Family Day Care Manager

Karen has worked in the education and care sector since 1991 and is currently the Family Day Care and Administration Manager at Adventure Patch, where she has been for the past four years, following nine years of service on the Adventure Patch Board.

Throughout her career, Karen has loved every aspect of working in the education and care sector, with a particular passion for supporting children with disabilities and mentoring educators. Ensuring that empathy guides practice—regardless of the child or situation—has been a core value throughout her work. What Karen values most about the Education and Care sector is the privilege of making a positive impact on the most precious gift educators are entrusted with: children.

Family is at the heart of Karen’s life. After an 11‑year IVF journey, she and her family were blessed with a beautiful daughter. She is also a proud aunty to two nieces and two nephews, and a great‑aunty to four boys and one girl.

Basketball is another lifelong passion for Karen. One of her proudest achievements was coaching the Australian Special Olympics Men’s Basketball Team at the 1995 World Games in the USA, where the team brought home a bronze medal. Her twenty years with Special Olympics provided some of the most profound life lessons and experiences of her life.

Our leadership Team

Megan Thomas

Outside School Hours Care Manager

Megan has worked in the education and care industry for more than 10 years and has developed a strong passion for early childhood education and music. She graduated from the University of Tasmania in 2019 with a Bachelor of Teaching, specialising in Early Childhood.

Megan joined Adventure Patch in January 2024 as Assistant Manager of Outside School Hours Care (OSHC). Later that year, she moved into her current role as OSHC Manager and Educational Leader. Before joining Adventure Patch, Megan spent four years teaching in a primary school setting—beginning as a Year 1 teacher before transitioning into the role of Primary Music Teacher.

Throughout her career, Megan has gained a broad range of experience, from working as an Early Childhood Teacher (ECT) in childcare during her university studies to leading learning programs in school environments. She is deeply committed to providing enriching, meaningful experiences for children and supporting their growth through creativity and play.

Outside of work, Megan enjoys music and spending quality time with her family.
